Retail Sales Increase

Published: Thu 6 Sep 2001 11:07 AM
Retail Trade Survey: July 2001
Seasonally adjusted retail sales increased 0.6 per cent in July 2001, compared with June 2001, according to Statistics New Zealand. The core retailing group (which excludes the motor vehicle services and retailing storetypes) increased 0.4 per cent over the same period.
The trend for total retail sales has been increasing since May 1998. The trend has increased 20.6 per cent over this period.
Results by storetype were mixed, with rises outweighing falls. Of the core retailing group (which excludes the motor vehicle services and retailing storetypes), six had increases in seasonally adjusted sales, six had falls, and food retailing remained virtually unchanged. Motor vehicle services and retailing sales also increased in July 2001. Changes in seasonally adjusted sales for all storetypes were between -$3 million and $6 million, which is the narrowest range of movements seen over the past five months.
