Comacc Cracks Aussie Market
New Zealand Payroll company Comacc is rapidly cracking the Australian market, with a highly successful installation for a Sydney employer.
"Hotel Dynamics in Sydney was using a Comacc Visual Payroll system to pay New Zealand staff from Sydney. They liked it so much, they asked us to develop an Australian version," says Comacc Marketing Director Steve Nathan.
Initially cautious, the company planned to run the Comacc system to pay just 60 staff. But when it went live, they decided to use if for all 670 employees.
Three pays down the track, the system is worth its weight in gold, according to the Aussies.
"We've worked so hard to create a quality payroll for New Zealand employers, it was a matter of modifying it to accommodate the Australian tax and employment law," says Nathan. "We've always had a lot of overseas clients using Comacc to pay staff in New Zealand, so developing Comacc for their own staff is a natural business extension for us." Currently, offshore clients include McCains, Pizza Haven and Gateway Computers.
The Australian payroll is also attracting interest from New Zealand companies who employ staff in Australia and systems have recently been installed for around a dozen clients in this group.
Comacc expects to have a staffed office set up in Sydney within six months and believes the Hotel Dynamics success will open the way into the tight Aussie market. "We've established a good rapport with the Australian Association for Payroll Specialists, and will be taking the Comacc system to conferences in Melbourne and Sydney later this year."
According to Nathan, there has also been interest from offshore clients to develop the payroll package for the US market as well as the Pacific. Responding to this, Comacc is developing versions for Fiji, the Cook Islands and Samoa.
"Our concern has always been that we don't neglect our New Zealand customers to chase big dollars overseas," says Nathan. "But after 11 years in payroll, we are confident we can handle the overseas potential, without any loss of service to this country."
