Advice Could Save New Zealanders Hundreds Of Dollars
Many New Zealanders could save between $300 and $400 per year by following advice available thanks to a partnership
between the New Zealand Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB), the New Zealand Federation of Family Budgeting
Services (NZFFBS) and the ANZ Banking Group (NZ) Ltd.
The three organisations have worked together to produce a takeaway brochure that will be available at close to 400
locations - in CAB and NZFFBS offices and ANZ branches throughout the country. It will also be available on-line at
www.anz.co.nz and www.cab.org.nz.
Entitled "Give yourself a financial check-up" it provides guidelines on effective budgeting, choosing the right bank
account for an individual's needs and tips on better banking practices such as minimising fees and consolidating debt.
ANZ Managing Director, Dr Murray Horn, says the brochure could save a customer who has not organised their banking
properly anywhere from $300 to $400 per year on bank fees alone. He says by following the budgeting guidelines provided
or visiting a NZFFBS office or ANZ branch for personalised advice people could save thousands of dollars more.
Earlier this year ANZ launched a "Tips on Better Banking" campaign which included brochures and merchandising in branch
and information on our website - www.anz.co.nz. Dr Horn said the earlier campaign offered straightforward advice on how
ANZ customers could reduce the cost of their banking, but the Bank wanted to extend this.
"Combining advice on banking and budgeting was a natural next step and we wanted to spread the net wider by partnering
with New Zealand's leading providers of advice and information."
Dr Horn says ANZ will continue to provide free advice to its customers, but encourages New Zealanders who want
additional advice on organising their finances to contact their nearest CAB or NZFFBS office.
