Shell New Zealand Welcomes Low Sulphur Trials

Shell New Zealand today welcomed central Government’s backing of two six week trials to supply lower sulphur diesel in Auckland and across New Zealand.

“On behalf of Shell’s customers across New Zealand, we are pleased to support the trials to provide lower sulphur diesel,” Shell New Zealand Chairman Ed Johnson said today.

“The trials will provide the refinery, industry and Government with useful data on the production, supply chain logistics and the general economics of lower sulphur diesel.

“We can then jointly formulate a long-term and sustainable initiative for production and supply of lower sulphur diesel as one part of a comprehensive air quality improvement programme.”

Mr Johnson said the trials were a good example of business working constructively with the Government to move forward on environmental and other important issues.

“Constructive dialogue and goodwill between the Government, the refinery and the oil companies have proven highly beneficial in trying to reach a sensible solution for an issue that affects various parties including our customers and the public. Shell welcomes this sustainable development approach,” Mr Johnson said.

Mr Johnson reminded all New Zealanders driving diesel vehicles of their personal responsibility to ensure their vehicles were regularly serviced and in good operating condition.
