Farming Fieldays To Have IT Focus

Rural New Zealand’s annual get-together at Mystery Creek in Hamilton will have an IT focus this year as the importance of the Internet and IT grows among farmers.

The country’s leading rural portal RD1.COM has a large exhibition space at the National Fieldays to demonstrate the site content to farmers.

The company will hold workshops and seminars for farmers wanting to make the most of new online services as well as offering Internet-ready computer packages.

The fieldays site will have a broadband link, thanks to fixed wireless operator Walker Wireless, which is exploring opportunities in the rural sector.

RD1.COM chief executive Neal Murphy said that, as well as the usual tractors and other traditional technology, farmers were increasingly focusing on IT and management tools that could improve productivity.

“Timely access to information lies at the heart of better farm management, and the Internet is integral to this,” he said.

RD1.COM has continued to expand its range of online expertise and online products to give farmers more immediate access to information and services.
