Industry NZ to support first New Zealand Fashion Week

Industry New Zealand is to support the country’s first Fashion Week.

Funding of $100,000 will be provided to help ensure New Zealand’s unique and fresh fashion style is presented to the world. The Fashion Week, to be held in Auckland in October, will feature leading designers including Zambesi, World, and Gaye Bartlett before the buyers and fashion media of the world.

Industry NZ Board member, Bridget Wickham, said today that with an annual export value of $220 million in 1999, fashion was one of New Zealand’s most promising creative industries.

“We want to expose New Zealand fashion to key buyers from major international markets and retail outlets. This first New Zealand Fashion Week will introduce them to our country’s dynamic and innovative fashion industry by putting it on a global stage for the first time.

“Industry NZ assist in a range of major projects that are designed to enhance business growth. It aims to identify and remove barriers and to optimise opportunities. We have confidence this funding will assist the Fashion Week organisers to reach their goals,” Ms Wickham said.

The event will be run over several days and will include a trade exhibition, festival and Consumer Weekend that will be open to the public.
