Retail Sales Indicator - November 2000
Seasonally adjusted retail sales for November are estimated at $3,690 million according to Statistics New Zealand's Retail Sales Indicator. This early estimate suggests no change in the value of retail sales when compared with final sales in October. November sales, excluding the motor vehicle sales and servicing storetypes, were $2,619 million, a seasonally adjusted increase of 0.2 per cent on the corresponding final October total.
The Retail Sales Indicator is derived from early responses to Statistics New Zealand's monthly Retail Trade Survey and should be used with care. For November, these responses contributed 76 per cent of the published value of the indicator. The other 24 per cent comprises sales estimates for those that had not responded by 20 November. These estimates are based on the sales of other similar sized retailers in a similar activity.
Final retail sales statistics for November including the usual detailed storetype analysis will be released on Friday 19 January 2001.
