Mobil's Customer Service Centres "Significant Occasion For New Zealand"
The opening of Mobil's twin Customer Service Centres (CSC) in Wellington this morning represents a significant reversal
of the recent trend for businesses to site their customer service facilities offshore.
In addition, the two CSCs - one for fuels and one for lubrication products - will service Mobil customers throughout
Australia as well as New Zealand.
Mobil's lead country manager, Alan Heng said that he was thrilled that the CSCs were based in Wellington especially
since the decision to do so was made after exhaustive investigation and analysis of alternative sites on both sides of
the Tasman.
"Wellington was chosen in the end because it provided a skilled and able workforce and also offered a strong
telecommunications infrastructure to support our activities," Mr Heng said.
"These Customer Service Centres represent a $15 million investment in the local economy, will initially provide over 120
jobs and are using and further developing leading edge technologies and processes.
"This morning's opening is a exciting event for Mobil and its customers and, in light of the Deputy Prime Minister's
recent challenge to New Zealand businesses to base their customer services locally, it is a significant occasion for
Wellington and the whole of New Zealand," he said.
The opening was celebrated with a traditional Powhiri and Maori blessing attended by 150 guests including the Minister
of Commerce, Hon Paul Swain and the
Wellington Mayor, Mark Blumsky.
The CSCs are expected to handle over 800 customer transactions daily, processing orders for 16 million litres of fuel
and 350,000 litres of lubricants and petroleum specialties a day for customers as far as 8000 kilometres away.
