Auckland, 16 October 2000 – The sale of the Auckland Warriors rugby league club was completed this afternoon.
Auckland technology investor Eric Watson and the New Zealand Rugby League, combined to purchase the club from former owners Tainui. Mr Watson holds his investment through his private investment company Cullen Investments Ltd.
The club’s new board will be: Eric Watson, Matthew Ridge, Mark Hotchin, Bernie Wood and Bill McEntee.
A Cullen Investments spokesman, Paul Connell, said player negotiations were progressing satisfactorily.
Mr Watson said completing the transaction allowed all parties associated with the club to put its recent history behind them and concentrate on future developments.
“There was a short window to complete all the outstanding conditions of the sale and I am delighted to say we have achieved a satisfactory conclusion,” Mr Watson said.
