AUCKLAND, 9 August 2000 – Hewlett-Packard in New Zealand today announced its new management structure initiated as part of the company’s global business re-focus. Internationally HP has re-positioned itself as an e-services company that provides customers with total solutions including infrastructure, e-services and appliances.
To drive this process in New Zealand, Barry Hastings has been appointed as the new managing director of Hewlett-Packard New Zealand as well as general manager of BCSO, the business customer sales organisation.
“The key aspect of all this change is that worldwide we are aligning our business to better fit specific customers’ needs be they consumers, SME’s, corporates or government organisations,” says Mr Hastings.
He also says his role will give the company more “local focus and autonomy as it works towards developing a customer-centric business operation.”
Mr Hastings joined Hewlett-Packard in 1992 as a corporate account manager based in Auckland. After a brief stint at Toshiba in the mid-nineties, he accepted the position as Commercial Channels Organisation manager back at Hewlett-Packard. In April 1999 he became general manager New Zealand.
To address the expanding solutions market, Mark Bowman has been appointed general manager, Solutions. In this role he is responsible for the sales and delivery of all products and services to corporate and government customers. He will also manage HP’s service solutions partners.
“In delivering e-services and infrastructure solutions to our customers we will be strengthening relationships with our business partners. This is great news for our customers and will create a larger addressable market for both HP and our partners,” says Mr Bowman.
Michael Carden is the general manager, Consumer Business Organisation (CBO). The CBO will bring together multiple technologies within computing, communication and entertainment to create personal digital solutions for customers’ “e-lives”.
“Our new business strategy signals a major shift in the way we operate. We are excited by the opportunity this gives us to build on our exceptional history and invent the HP of the future here in New Zealand,” says Mr Hastings.
