INNOVATIVE NZ COMPANY JOINS GLOBAL GIANT

The company that brings you Glad Wrap and Mono Foil, NationalPak New Zealand today changes its name to Clorox New Zealand Limited, as part of its integration with the US-based home products giant, The Clorox Company.

NationalPak New Zealand manufactures and markets a range of household, industrial and automotive products. Clorox sells products in more than 110 countries worldwide, manufactures in 14 countries, including New Zealand, and employs more than 11,000 people.

“Being part of Clorox opens up the very real prospect of exporting product to other Clorox companies around the world as well as offering us the ability to expand our product portfolio in this country,” Bill Richmond, NationalPak’s general manager, said.

“As well, we believe we will benefit enormously from the leading edge research conducted by Clorox in the US,” he added.

NationalPak was part of First Brands Corporation, which was acquired by Clorox in January last year, strengthening the company’s presence in the ANZA (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) region. NationalPak Australia and First Brands South Africa also change their names to Clorox today. All three have manufacturing sites, offering Clorox differing capabilities.

“Our New Zealand plant is seen as being an efficient producer of short-run, highly technical products. We are also viewed as being innovative in our approach to product enhancement,” Bill Richmond said.

Two examples of that success have been oven bag production and the development of machinery for perforated Glad Wrap. Today the company exports oven bags to Australia and supplies them to five major airlines in the region.

A Glad Wrap perforation machine was designed and developed at NationalPak’s Auckland site by engineering supervisor Charles Strickland and his team. Since then, the machine has been exported to Australia and Hong Kong.

Brands currently manufactured in New Zealand include Glad, Mono, Tri, Rota and XLO. The company also sells Chux, Zooper Doopers and Fruit Tubes (iced confectionery), Armor All and STP (automotive). The company employs over 100 full and part time staff and is based in Mt Wellington, Auckland.
