Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Monday:

Situation: A high lies north of the country today. A front is moving up the South Island and should move onto the North Island tonight. Tomorrow the high then pushes a weak ridge back onto the country. On Saturday the high dominates but a strong northwest flow develops over the lower South Island. The northwest flow spreads over the remainder of the country on Sunday as the high weakens and drifts northeast of the North Island. On Monday a front moves onto the country from the Tasman Sea and is followed by a cooler southwesterly flow.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloud increasing today with a few showers likely. Morning showers clearing tomorrow and becoming fine. Mostly fine on Saturday. Cloudy at times on Sunday. Rain developing on Monday with gusty northwesterlies.

COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Cloud increasing today then a few late showers. A few brief showers early tomorrow then becoming fine again. Mostly fine Saturday and Sunday. Cloud increasing Monday with northwest winds.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Mainly fine today. A few showers spread into Wairarapa after dark then further north overnight. Tomorrow, a few showers clearing and becoming fine. Mostly fine Saturday and Sunday. High cloud increasing Monday with patchy rain developing about Wairarapa later. Northwesterlies becoming strong.

WELLINGTON: Cloud increasing today then showers and southerlies developing after dark. Becoming fine on Friday remaining fine on Saturday. Mostly cloudy on Sunday with gusty northerlies. Rain developing on Monday with strong northwest winds.

NELSON: Cloud increasing with a few showers developing today. Becoming fine tomorrow. Mainly fine on Saturday, some high cloud developing later. High cloud again on Sunday but remaining dry. Rain developing on Monday with gusty northwest winds.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Patchy rain spread from the west today then breaking to a few showers and southwesterlies. Becoming fine tomorrow. Mostly fine Saturday but with increasing high cloud about Canterbury. High cloud thickening on Sunday with warm gusty northwesterlies. Rain on Monday with northwesterlies turning southwest.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain easing to showers from the south this evening. Cloudy about the Fiords tomorrow, mainly fine elsewhere. On Saturday and Sunday, Rain south of the glaciers with cloudy skies elsewhere. Widespread rain on Monday with heavy falls likely.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Clearing inland today. A few showers remain about the coast. Mostly fine tomorrow. High cloud on Saturday with northwest winds. Rain in the west on Sunday. Thickening high cloud and warm gusty northwesterlies elsewhere. Rain breaking to showers on Monday with southwest winds developing.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Mostly cloud with showers today and tomorrow. Becoming fine on Saturday and remaining fine on Sunday. Cloud increasing on Monday with gusty northwesterlies.
