After the dramatic events of Tuesday and the postponement of Wednesday, everyone is looking forward to an interesting day on the race course today.... if racing goes ahead.
The weather front of yesterday appears to be lingering, but the competitors are hoping for a late start, rather than a non-start.
AmericaOne is up against Nippon Challenge. This looks like an exciting race on paper. Cayard and Gilmour had an interesting battle in Round One. With a penalty against Cayard in the pre start. The boats came within inches, but eventually AmerciaOne won. Hopefully we will see some more of that exciting stuff today.
The Italian Prada Challenge is still unbeaten. Stars & Stripes will get a shot at them today. The Americans will be keen on winning after their finish line loss to Abracadabra on Tuesday. They also need the win to stay in touch as Stars & Stripes has slipped to seventh in the rankings.
The French dropped to third from last in the rankings after Tuesday’s loss to Bravo España. Today they will face America True who had a day off after their spirited win against AmericaOne. The French will have to work hard for a win.
John Kolius had a good race against his American Stars & Stripes rivals on Tuesday. They fought back and took the lead on the second run and kept it to the finish. Today they face Young Australia who is still fine-tuning its ‘new’ boat (AUS-31). Expect to see an exciting pre start period with Spithill throwing all his match race skills at Kolius.
After Tuesday’s disaster Young America will not race. According to the rules Young America forfeits the next race if they use a new boat and surely they can not use USA-53 today. Fast 2000 will have to sail the course alone to gain an easy four points.
