More Auckland Bus Strikes Likely - Talks Collapse

Stagecoach Contract Talks Breakdown Again

by Selwyn Manning

More strike action is likely after talks between Stagecoach bus company management and bus drivers broke down last night.

And today, the bus drivers say further strikes are likely in Auckland this week.

The contract negotiations between the union and the company broke down after they failed to reach an agreement after coming frustratingly close.

Yesterday afternoon the bus driver's union said a deal was in hand. But the two parties failed to agree on two main sticking points: they are breaks from work and split shifts.

Union representative, Gary Froggatt says he can't guarantee bus drivers won't elect to strike again this week.

He urges Auckland commuters to be prepared and for passengers to make alternative arrangements just in case.
