Auckland Zoo leads the field in promotional marketing with a new credit card-sized CD ROM which can hold as much information as 25 standard "floppy disks".
The card is really a "teaser" which is aimed at attracting visitors to the McDonald's Rainforest website at www.zoorainforest.co.nz
One thousand cards have been sent to schools throughout New Zealand, and it is expected that teachers will use the card in conjunction with the website as part of their curriculum.
As well as providing a link to the website, the new CD card gives a video tour of the rainforest at the Zoo. The audio includes animal calls and sounds of the rain forest, as well as an interactive page where users can click on to animal images for close-up viewing.
Auckland Zoo's Marketing Manager Frances Valintine says "we’re delighted to be the first organisation to use CD ROM card technology. We see this card as an excellent opportunity to showcase the McDonald's rainforest and our associated on-line teaching resource".
