Cancer Inquiry Terms Not Broad Enough - A woman who contracted cancer after her
smear test was misread by pathologist Dr Michael Bottrill, says the time frame of the Government’s inquiry is too
narrow. 20,000 smear slides from 1991 to 1996 are still to be re-tested. But of the 5000 already tested it has been
found 129 were initially misread by the now retired pathologist. The woman is still battling cancer after one of her
smears was misread in 1994. She says her case falls within the specified time frame but there are others who don’t.
Cut Companies Tax Says Chamber - The Auckland Chamber of Commerce says it is critical New Zealand follows Australia’s
lead and slashes corporate tax rates immediately. Businesses across the Tasman are looking forward to a six cent cut.
They will pay just 30 cents in the dollar, while companies here are paying 33 cents in the dollar. Chamber of Commerce
chief executive, Michael Barnett says with a reduced rate the companies will be able to increase investment and in turn
create more jobs.
Paedofile Ring Busted - Police want victims of a paedofile ring to come forward.
Three men have been charged with offenses involving boys aged under 16 years. They will appear in court this morning on
a number of sex and drug offenses. Child porn has also been seized from a number of addresses. Police have already
interviewed 15 victims from all over the Wellington region. Police say they know there are other victims out there. They
can contact either the police or a help foundation phoneline.
