Manukau City Council's State of the Environment Report has been awarded "The Best State of the Environment Report by a Local Authority" at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand's Annual Report Awards ceremony held on Friday 30th July.

The 1997/98 Annual Report included material from the recently released State of the Environment Report 1999. This is the second award for the Report. Earlier in the year Manukau City Council was recognised by the New Zealand Planning Institute for 'excellence in integrated monitoring and reporting to the community on its environment' through the prestigious Nancy Northcroft Planning Practice Award.

Geoff Foster, Council's Chief Financial Officer attended the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand's Annual Report Awards ceremony held in Wellington and returned with the award which consists of a large framed certificate and an attractive trophy to be retained by Council.

Manukau City Council was also a finalist in the Public Sector entities section of the overall awards. It is also notable that Manukau's Annual Report also gained a Silver Award in the Australian Reports Awards (ARA) for the third year in a row.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (ICANZ) Annual Report Awards sets out to achieve excellence in reporting to users, stakeholders and other interest groups. The standards have risen considerably over the last ten years the awards have been in existence. There is considerable emphasis on areas of interest as well as financial information, in particular the environmental and human resources aspects.
