Liu Chong Police File Under Review

by Selwyn Manning

The police have re-opened the file on Liu Chong, the 12 year old girl who was found dead and washed up on a Manukau Harbour beach.

The case and the police investigation is being reviewed into the girl’s death.

Liu Chong disappeared in May from a park near her Mount Roskill home. Her body was discovered two weeks later on an isolated south-side stretch of the Manukau Harbour.

A post mortem and forensic examination showed that Liu Chong died from drowning. She was found still clothed and there were no signs of violence or sexual foul play.

But the Auckland Chinese Community believes she was the victim of a crime.

A petition has been issued to police asking for the case to be reviewed. The police have agreed, but Superintendent Howard Broad says investigations are routinely peer-reviewed to make sure all possible inquiries have been exhausted.
