Sweetwaters Promoter Charged With Fraud
by Selwyn Manning
The promoter of this year’s Sweetwaters Concert in Manukau City has been charged with fraud.
The Serious Fraud Office has charged Daniel Keighley on five counts of uttering a forged document.
Keighley’s promotions company went into liquidation in February after accruing debt of $3 million owed to musicians and tradespeople. Workers at the four-day music festival worked without pay and security contracts were allegedly bartered. Manukau City Council also allegedly did not receive payment for providing the venue and the cleanup afterwards.
The festival provided a musical extravaganza with every conceivable style and type of music on offer. But it had a lower than expected turnout of concert goers.
The Serious
Fraud Office alleges Keighley used false documents to
promote the financial viability of the
festival.
