The man shot by North Shore police after a domestic dispute in Greenhithe on August 6 will face charges relating to the incident in court next week.

Gordon Drewett (33) is still recovering in Auckland Hospital from stomach and chest injuries sustained when shot in the chest by police.

He was shot after he allegedly continued to threaten police with a knife after releasing a baby he held hostage.

Police have charged Drewett with two charges of assault with intent to injure, three of assault with a weapon, and charges of aggravated burglary, kidnapping and rendering a person unconscious. The charges all relate to incidents on the day of the shooting.

Drewett will also face an addition raft of charges involving threatening grievous bodily harm, threatening to kill, and assault on his former partner allegedly involving incidents in the days before the shooting.

Police say Drewett continues to be under police guard in Auckland Hospital and will appear before the courts on Tuesday, if well enough.
