Corporate Volunteering Consultant Offers Free Auckland Seminar

David Halley, international corporate volunteering consultant, will give a free seminar in Auckland on Thursday (12 August).

David Halley’s impressive business background includes being a member of the team that developed and launched the IBM personal computer and London regional director for the IBM personal computer business from 1984 to 1988.

While working for IBM, David took a secondment to a charitable organisation, ARC, for which he developed its Employees in the Community concept.

Taking early retirement, he came to New Zealand and worked for Digital NZ for 18 months before returning to London as the marketing director for ARC.

After ARC merged with the UK organisation Business in the Community in 1995, David became a freelance consultant working mainly with Business in the Community and its member organisations to develop a full range of Employees in the Community programmes, methodologies, human resource programmes and twinning programmes.

Some of his recent projects include:

* Setting up and training the CECILE network of European partners who can deliver EiTC programs across the Union, eg. If Disney wants a volunteering program in 6 countries; David and his team develop the model in the UK and then roll it out via the partners.
* Developing a number of pilot programs eg Marks and Spencer 100 hour assignments Barclay’s Transition Secondments KPMG’s Team Challenge
* Writing the 40-page guide to Employee Community Involvement, translated into the 4 main other languages of the European Union, and the full guide for EiTC brokers.
* Speaking engagements at conferences around Europe on Corporate Community Involvement.

Judy Collins, Manager of Auckland City’s Community Development Division, says corporate volunteering is a relatively new concept in New Zealand. "We are keen to bring the business and community sectors together, to further explore the opportunities that corporate volunteering can bring."
