The condition of a man shot by police in Greenhithe on Auckland's North Shore is causing hospital staff concern.
Gordon Drewett (33) was shot by a police officer after police were called to a residential address after receiving a
complaint that a man was threatening another with a knife.
On arrival police say they found a woman in the front of a property bleeding from facial wounds. A man was also found
holding a baby with one hand and a knife in the other.
Police negotiated with Drewett. He put the baby down but then approached police with the weapon. He allegedly failed to
heed police requests for him to put the weapon down. Police then shot him.
A single bullet entered Drewett's chest through the middle of his ribcage. It then went down through his diaphragm
damaging a kidney and his liver.
Drewett has undergone two emergency surgeries, once on Friday evening and another yesterday morning. Auckland Hospital
this morning said his condition is listed as critical and causing concern.
Drewett was on bail and is reported to have been allegedly angry about being denied access to his baby.
He travelled from KatiKati in the Bay of Plenty to Greenhithe to the house of his estranged partner on Friday morning.
Police say Drewett will face charges relating to Friday's incident.
