Teens Have To Wait - Liquor drinking laws may not come into effect until the end of this year. The legal drinking age will be lowered to 18. MPs in a conscience vote have freed up the liquor laws to allow Sunday trading. However, Justice Minister Tony Ryall says those aged between 18 and 20 wanting to legally drink in hotels and others who want to drink on a Sunday without buying food, will have to wait awhile yet. Perhaps later than October 1.
Tamihere Says No To Handshake - Outgoing
Waipareira Trust head, John Tamihere, has decided not to
accept a golden handshake when he leaves the post next
month. Talk of Mr Tamihere receiving a $280,000 payout and a
car has prompted criticism from political rival, New Zealand
First leader Winston Peters. However, Mr Tamihere says he
will not accept a cent and will leave the job empty handed
to minimise any disruption within the Trust. He is standing
for Labour in the Maori Electorate of
Hauraki.
