Meet
Sherree – a Supportive Housing Practice Lead at Visionwest
who’s decided to leap out of an aeroplane for a cause
close to her heart.
Sherree knows how tough winter can be for families, how quickly the cost of a coat for each kid can add up, not to mention the mystery of lost jackets. In her work, she also sees a reality where people are forced to choose between food and heating.
“This winter, I want to make sure those we support feel warm and cared for,” says Sherree. “If I have to jump out of a plane to make that happen, well, at least I’ll have a good view while I’m doing it.”
This isn’t just a bucket-list tick, Sherree is diving (literally!) into a bold fundraising mission: $5,000 to provide warm winter clothing like jackets, jumpers, socks, plus bedding, and kids’ PJs. These are practical, comforting items that make all the difference during the colder months. It’s all part of the wraparound support that helps ensure families aren’t just housed but supported to thrive.
Her skydive is set for Mother’s Day (May 11) a day Sherree says is perfect for showing aroha, courage, and maybe a few nerves.
“Sure, most people would prefer flowers,” she jokes. “But this skydive is my version of a big, brave hug to every whānau doing it tough this winter.”
To help reach her $5,000 goal, Sherree is also on the lookout for a match donor, someone with a big heart (and maybe steadier feet) willing to double the impact.
Between now and jump day, she’s pulling out all the stops – bake sales, raffles, maybe a wild wig day or two – and any other fun ideas she can rope in her coworkers and friends for.
If you’re thinking, “Whoa, I could never do that,” no worries – you can still help from solid ground. Sponsoring her jump means helping families stay warm this winter. Support Sherree Dayal • Visionwest Fundraise.
