International Experts To Convene At 2025 Animals In Emergencies And Disasters Conference In New Zealand
The Animal Emergency Incident Management Network ANZ (AEIMN ANZ) is hosting the Animals in Emergencies and Disasters Conference, May 9–10, 2025 at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The conference aims to advance the management of human safety and animal welfare during emergencies and disasters and to foster collaborations among emergency services, veterinarians, animal welfare organisations, and policymakers.
Jim Green, Director of Operations at the British Animal Rescue and Trauma Care Association (BARTA), based in the UK, is the keynote presenter. With a distinguished career in animal rescue and emergency response, Jim has been instrumental in developing standardised methodologies and delivering animal incident management training globally. His extensive experience includes collaborations with firefighting communities and veterinary and animal related organisations. Jim has worked with the veterinary response teams at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and pioneered the translation of the structured responses used by emergency services into a format now adopted across all UK racecourses.
Josh Slater, chair of the AEIMN ANZ, said ‘We are proud to be holding our 2025 conference in New Zealand and are grateful to Massey University for hosting the event. The conference will be a unique opportunity for emergency and disaster responders across our region to come together and plan for the future.’
Jim Green, of BARTA, said ‘I am really looking forward to supporting the AEIMN May conference. As we develop an International Community of Practice for Incidents Involving Animals, bringing people together to share and learn is crucial in building relationships and driving positive change. Australia and New Zealand have made huge progress in this area of community resilience, and I am excited to relay that learning back to the wider community.’
Attendees can look forward to a comprehensive program encompassing: • Insights into managing large-scale disasters and single-animal incidents • Panel discussions with experts from the UK, Australia, and New Zealand • Practical demonstrations and equipment showcases
• Focused sessions on incident management in racing and equestrian sports on the afternoon of Saturday
AEIMN ANZ is grateful to the conference’s major sponsor, Resquip.
