Update: Miramar Homicide Investigation

Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard:

A team of investigators continue to investigate the homicide of 63-year-old Abdul Nabizadah, who was found critically injured in Camperdown Road, Miramar at 2.20am on Monday 17 March. Mr Nabizadah later died in Wellington Hospital from injuries Police believe were received while being assaulted and robbed at this location at around 12.30am.

The investigation has previously said there is a link between the death of Mr Nabizadah and the aggravated burglary of a nearby Darlington Road house at about 2am. A 28-year-old Porirua man has been charged in relation to this burglary and is remanded in custody to reappear on 27 June.

Police can now confirm that a phone was located in the Darlington Road scene after it was dropped by the alleged offender when confronted by the home owner. A user of this phone had earlier been in contact with Mr Nabizadah and arranged to meet with him in Camperdown Road at about 12.30am.

It is believed that Mr Nabizadah was assaulted and robbed at this meeting and his black lanyard with five keys attached were stolen by the offender. These have not been located and it is possible the offender discarded them in the wider Camperdown Road area, perhaps in a garden, walkway or roadway, soon after the robbery. A photo of a similar lanyard is below. Police appeal for anyone that has knowledge of the lanyard and keys, or has seen them, to make contact.

The investigation has identified an address close to the Camperdown Road scene that several persons of interest to the investigation were visiting at the time of the two incidents. The people that frequent this address, including the persons of interest, and other visitors, have information critical to the investigation and we urge them to speak with us and tell us what they know so that we can provide answers and justice for the Nabizadah family.

Police have previously appealed for information about a woman’s large size Mirrou brand zip-up jacket with white stripes on the arms that was found discarded on the walkway leading from Camperdown Road to Nevay Road. Police now believe the jacket was worn by one of the people of interest in the investigation and ask anyone that has information about how the jacket came to be in the walkway to contact us.
