Healthy People, Warm Homes At The Heart Of Positive Ageing Forum

Stratford District Council is inviting the district’s 65-plus community to a free Positive Ageing Forum highlighting ways to create healthy warm homes and healthy people. The event, on Monday 12 May from 10.30am – 1pm at the Stratford War Memorial Centre, also includes the opportunity to socialise over lunch and a good cuppa (or three).

Speaking at the May Positive Ageing Forum will be Hilary Blackstock, Sport Taranaki’s Strength & Balance coordinator, who’ll share opportunities for older adults to keep active in Taranaki, as well as how people can improve strength and balance for an upright and independent life.

Homes need to be healthy too, and Bree Paton-Courtney from Wise Charitable Trust will reveal free and low-cost tips and tricks to reduce moisture in the whare, improve ventilation, retain heat, and more, to help our 65-plus community create more comfortable living spaces while saving on energy costs.

Positive Ageing co-ordinator, Anna-Louise Crane, says that the forum’s a chance to put the focus on older adults. “Through these regular forums, we can address the issues that are affecting our 65-plus community in a positive way, with good information, a good lunch, and good company,” Anna-Louise says.

“To register for the forum, please contact me at Stratford District Council by Thursday 8 May. You can email ACrane@stratford.govt.nz or call 06 765 6099, providing a name and contact number, and how many people you’re registering for. I look forward to welcoming you on the day!”

Positive Ageing is an initiative supported by Stratford District Council to create opportunities for older adults to celebrate, connect, and be informed on issues that affect them.
