Darby Should Call Vote On At Parking Strategy
The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is urging Councillor Chris Darby, Chair of the Planning Committee, to call an urgent vote on Auckland Transport’s Parking Strategy before local body elections.
The New Zealand Herald reported today that, despite overwhelming public opposition to the draft strategy, Auckland Transport intends to go back out to consultation.
“Officials are using this delay tactic in the hope that the issue won’t damage the electoral chances of incumbent councillors. But this is a gross waste of ratepayer money,” said Ratepayers’ Alliances spokesman Josh Van Veen.
“Public opinion is well and truly opposed to Auckland Transport’s radical plans to remove parking in our biggest city,” Mr Van Veen said.
“Those councillors who support the parking strategy should have the courage of their convictions to decide this matter before Aucklanders vote in September. Stop delaying, stop hiding behind process, and make a decision. Then let the voters judge you.”
