An orange glow will emanate from nearly every city across Aotearoa New Zealand come the evening of July 1, as key Kiwi landmarks light up in support of World Vision’s 40 Hour Famine.

Auckland’s Sky Tower and Eden Park will join Christchurch Airport, Wellington’s Cuba Mall Bucket Fountain, Dunedin’s Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, and many more to light up orange in support of this country’s largest fundraising event.

Eden Park’s Chief Executive Officer, Nick Sautner, says the stadium is honoured to support the cause.

“As an iconic Kiwi landmark, it’s only fitting that we acknowledge this iconic fundraising event, a staple weekend in the national calendar. It’s our aspiration to inspire others with our support – cheering on the brave young people who are taking on the 40 Hour Famine and encouraging their families and friends to donate to this outstanding cause,” he says.

This is the second year in a row the nation will be bathed in an orange glow. World Vision’s National Director Grant Bayldon is thrilled with the support from some of New Zealand’s most well-known landmarks.

“To see this many local monuments light up in support of the World Vision 40 Hour Famine is inspiring. The challenges young Kiwis are taking on this weekend will make a life-changing difference for so many children around the world and funds raised this year will help to give children clean, safe water to drink,” he says.

Last year the World Vision 40 Hour Famine raised nearly $2 million to help tackle the hunger crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa. The funds raised in this year’s World Vision 40 Hour Famine will help World Vision achieve its aim of bringing clean water to everyone everywhere the organisation works by 2030 – that’s more than 100 countries around the world.

Money raised will help provide emergency water to refugee camps; build water systems for villages that need a clean water supply; and equip communities with the tools they need to keep water flowing for years to come.
