Situation
Cyclone DOVI was located over open waters to the west of Northland tonight (Saturday) and is moving southeast. On it's
current forecast track DOVI is expected to make landfall between New Plymouth and Kawhia Harbour during Sunday morning
then move eastward across the North Island. Outbreaks of heavy rain precedes the arrival of DOVI, and are already
affecting central New Zealand. Gale to severe gale winds associated with DOVI are expected to affect many parts of
central and northern New Zealand during Sunday. This is a significant weather event, with widespread adverse conditions
likely.
Warnings and Watches for heavy rain and severe gales are in force for many places. Lastly, significant and hazardous
waves with the potential of hazardous cross and rip currents are expected in association with Cyclone DOVI. The largest
waves are expected on the west coast of the North Island on Sunday. Please note, that there is still some uncertainty
regarding the exact timing and landfall of DOVI and the areas that are likely to be most significantly affected may
change. Expert meteorologists at MetService are closely monitoring this situation. People are strongly advised to keep
