Trade The Car For Your Bike On Friday

Trade the car for your bike and cycle to work on Friday 21 February. On your way stop off at Liz Davidson Place and enjoy a free breakfast in celebration of the annual ‘Go by Bike Day’.

Part of Aotearoa Bike Challenge month, ‘Go by Bike Day’ which is sponsored by Marlborough District Council, encourages more people to cycle to work, or for recreation.

Council’s Walking and Cycling Coordinator, Braden Prideaux says initiatives like Aotearoa Bike Challenge month, ‘Go by Bike Day’ and next month’s Adult Cycle Skills training programme, aim to upskill riders and boost people’s confidence to get them on their bike more regularly.

“Last year’s Aotearoa Bike Challenge saw 29 organisations take part in the challenge of riding to work during February. We’re hoping to grow those numbers even further this year and see more people on bikes,” Braden said.

You don’t need to register for ‘Go by Bike Day’, just jump on your bike on Friday morning, ride to Liz Davidson Place between 7.30 am and 9.00 am and join fellow cyclists for a free coffee and light snack to kick start your day. Alongside the breakfast the team from BikeFit will provide free bike safety checks.

During March Council will run an Adult Cycle Skills training programme. Keep an eye out for more information about this course at: www.marlborough.govt.nz/recreation/cycling-and-walking/cycling/cycle-skills-training
