Hamilton residents and organisations have until Monday evening (27 May) to provide feedback on the Draft West Town Belt
Masterplan.
The West Town Belt is a 54ha network of parks and open spaces on the edge of Hamilton’s city centre, and it originally
formed a green buffer between the historic Hamilton and Frankton boroughs. It includes a range of parks, community
facilities, Seddon Park, FMG Stadium Waikato, the historic Hamilton West Cemetery and a part of the Waitawhiriwhiri
Gully.
In April, Hamilton City Council approved the Draft West Town Belt Masterplan to go out for consultation, and allowed a
month for public feedback.
The Draft Masterplan includes a vision, goals and five key strategies to enhance the space, and breaks the West Town
Belt into nine character areas which provide a focus for more specific potential developments and projects.
The potential projects are not currently funded, however the Masterplan would inform the Council and community on future
decision-making.
An online portal – www.hamilton.govt.nz/westtownbelt - includes a downloadable version of the Masterplan, and a link to
provide feedback via the Council’s Have Your Say channel.
Physical copies of the Masterplan, and a feedback document, are available at the Council’s Municipal Building in Civic
Square, and the Central and St Andrews branches of Hamilton City Libraries.
