Take Me To Queenstown mural has Sydney-siders dreaming of winter adventures
Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia (23 May, 2019) A prominent Surry Hills, Sydney, address is featuring a vibrant patch of Queenstown in the lead up to winter 2019—with an exciting travel prize up for grabs.
Destination Queenstown partnered with former Queenstowner Chris Skyner’s agency Authority Creative to take over a piece of prime Sydney real estate. DQ brand and marketing manager Diana Mendes says as the Sydney winter comes along, DQ wanted to have a little fun with Australians.
“We wanted to remind our friends in Sydney why we love winter and get them excited about what awaits in Queenstown. It was our little way of adding colour to an otherwise gloomy season and invite them to escape the winter city blues. In our opinion, winter with snow is just a lot more fun.”
Artist Alex Lehours brought his vision to life on the wall in just a week.
Alex describes his work as an ‘eccentric explosion of chaos, humour, colour and absolute randomness’, specialising in mural work, illustration and typography. Over eight years he’s worked with a range of clients including rock brand The Black Keys, Converse, National Gallery of Victoria and Rolling Stone Magazine Australia.
The mural features a ski-goggle wearing woman dreaming up a vibrant patchwork of elements reminiscent of winter in Queenstown. It’s located at 1 Richards Avenue, Surry Hills, Sydney.
“When asked to paint a piece for Destination Queenstown I wanted to create an artwork that evoked the energy, vibrance and beauty of this magical New Zealand town.”
“I was excited to showcase Queenstown through my work and share my vision for this project,” he says.
The mural features the hashtag #TakeMeToQueenstown, and DQ is running a photo competition inviting Aussies to strike a snowflake pose, share it on Instagram, and include a creative caption as to why they should win a trip for two to Queenstown this winter.
The prize includes flights, accommodation, skiing and a slew of adventure for the person with the most creative post as judged by Authority Creative and Destination Queenstown.
Include the hashtag #TakeMeToQueenstown and tag @QueenstownNZ to be in to win.
Details of the competition and the prize are HERE.
