The NZ Transport Agency would like to advise motorists Pekatahi Bridge near Whakatane will be closed overnight from 7pm to 6am from Sunday 19 May to Thursday 23 May.
As a contingency, we may require extending the overnight 7pm to 6am closure to include the night of Thursday 23 May, re-opening 6am Friday 24 May.
This is to allow contractors to do maintenance on the bridge and is weather dependant.
The detour will be clearly sign posted from SH2 through Whakatane and will follow SH30, Hinemoa Street, Arawa Road, Valley Road and Taneatua Road.
We thank motorists, local businesses and the wider community for their patience during this time and ask drivers take extra care for cyclists and pedestrians while travelling the detour route through Whakatane.
