Wellington Against Racism & Fascism
We are marching through Wellington on Saturday 18 May in response to the Christchurch terrorist attack.
Organised by Wellington Against Racism and Fascism (WARF) this is one of a number of events built as part of a National Day of Action. Similar events are being held in Christchurch, Dunedin and Auckland.
The Wellington Day of Action will begin at Civic Square at 1.00 pm with a few speeches followed by a march through Wellington.
Speakers include :
Tahir Nawaz, president of the International Muslim Association of New Zealand and Imam of Kilbernie Mosque;
Sam Huggard, Secretary of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions;
Gayaal Iddamalgoda, Migrants and Refugee Rights Campaign;
Ibrahim Omer, from ChangeMakers refugee forum;
Guled Mire of Third Culture Minds;
Dolly Larkins, of the Public Service Association;
Sister Ruth Coleman, Ecology Justice and Peace Commission of the a Wellington Archdiocese;
Dan-Benson Guiu of the TEU.
WARF is a coalition joining together under the kaupapa to oppose fascism, racism, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism & to remove barriers for refugees and migrants.
