Dreams of a clean, green future for the world will blaze across Waitematā Harbour when Vector Lights on Auckland Harbour Bridge are lit up for Techweek19 next week. The designs were created by creative digital agency Method in collaboration with students from Clendon Park School and Manurewa High School, a first for Vector Lights.
The students were coached by the Method team, who asked them to think about what clean and creative technology meant to
them, and how this technology could be used to create brighter futures for us all.
The resulting ideas were full of creativity, as the students’ imaginations ran wild with questions about the future.
What would our lives be like if we all had self-making beds, rocket powered shoes for interplanetary travel and
exploration, and Lime scooters that distribute seeds to re-populate our native plants? Students also dreamed up new uses
for the familiar icons of clean technology - solar panels, electric vehicles, and wind turbines.
Method then took the students' ideas, drawings and illustrations and wove them into a storyline about the past, present,
and future of our world.
The final animation has turned these thoughts and dreams into a dynamic light show, accompanied by a voice over story
narrated by the students to tie everything together.
Vector CEO Simon Mackenzie says our next generation will be impacted most by the new energy future and that’s why we
have had children involved in the design of Vector Lights for Techweek, which is part of what makes it so special.
“With all of Vector Lights’ lighting needs fully met by solar and battery technology, I hope Aucklanders see Vector
Lights as a symbol of both the new times we are entering and of the possibilities for a more sustainable energy future
with greater customer choice.”
“This was such an awesome collaboration to be a part of,” says Sam Ramlu, Managing Director of Method. “Watching and
listening to the kids coming up with ideas for our future and then seeing our team bring these to life has been so
rewarding. We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we have working on it.”
