Responding to Mayor Goff’s promise of “free” buses and trains for children on weekends, Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesman Jordan Williams says:
“There is no such thing as a free lunch, or a free bus ride, and it is mischievous for Mr Goff to say 'free'. This
policy will cost ratepayers at least $1.1 million. That’s money that can’t be used to ease the rates burden, pay down
the Council’s $12 billion debt, or upgrade public transport."
"Expensive campaign promises are par for the course in any mayoral race, but Goff should at least be up front about
where the money comes from.”
