Join us for Techweek in Coromandel Town
Planning for Techweek Waikato 2019 is well underway.
This year there are 29 events planned throughout the Waikato
region, with a special event for our district, in Coromandel
Town.
Technology industry association NZTech began a Tech Innovation Week in 2012, to build enthusiasm around recent technologies being developed in New Zealand and it has grown to be a national festival showcasing leading edge technology, and amplifying brilliant ideas that are solving the biggest global challenges.
We would like to invite you to join us for the Coromandel Town Tech Week event. It will be held Wednesday 22 May at 12noon - 2pm at the Anglican Church Hall, 170 Tiki Road, Coromandel Town. The day is brought to you by the support of the Coromandel Business Association. EPro8 challenge at Parawai School this month
Our Council is proud to support
students from Parawai School in the EPro8 Challenge this
year. The EPro8 Challenge is a competition, an engineering
and problem-solving race, with over 9000 students from over
800 schools in New Zealand taking part.
At each heat teams from schools in that area undertake a range of science and engineering-based challenges, with the top teams from each event moving on to a semi-final and then a grand finale.
The challenges are a secret until the event. Past challenges have included building a Mars rover, constructing a crane, designing a party popper machine and calculating how many balloons it would take to make your little sister float away.
Each team is based at a workstation containing an assortment of equipment.
Event Manager Kelvin Thiele has an engineering background and enjoys organising and competing in running events. He combined these two passions to create what he describes as what would have been his dream event as an 11-year-old.
“Our aim is to put on high quality events that inspire children in science and engineering, and to give young New Zealanders an opportunity to take pride in representing their school in a way that requires collaborative team work,” says Mr Theile.
