All north-bound lanes on southern Motorway are open

Published: Thu 9 May 2019 01:41 PM
The NZ Transport Agency advises that all lanes on the Southern Motorway (SH1) at Ellerslie are now open, but it will take some time for congestion to clear.
Traffic is currently backed up north-bound to Princes St and to Newmarket for south-bound traffic.
The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience and understanding. Please avoid the motorway or delay your journey if possible.
An incident on the motorway at about 11:30AM caused all four north-bound lanes to be blocked just north of the Ellerslie-Panmure Highway interchange. The motorway was closed at the interchange with all traffic diverted off while the Serious Crash Unit carried out its investigation.
Motorists heading north on SH1 are advised to use SH20 via the Waterview tunnel to continue their journey north via the Western Ring Route.
