The Frankton Transfer Station will close to the public from 12 noon on 17 May until 8.00am on 20 May to allow for
repairs.
Queenstown Lakes District Council General Manager Property and Infrastructure Peter Hansby said the repairs were
required before the facility could be handed over to a new operator when the new Solid Waste contract commences on 1
July.
“From 1 July, the Transfer Station will be operated by our new contractor, Waste Management, who requires the facility
to be at a certain standard prior to handover. The closure will allow the floor pit to be repaired safely and quickly,
ensuring it not only meets their required standard but also increases its lifespan while a new transfer station facility
is developed in the future,” Mr Hansby said.
“We recognise that this is a very busy facility and have scheduled the work overnight and through a weekend to minimise
disruption as much as possible. We’d like to thank regular transfer station users for their patience while this
reparative work is carried out,” Mr Hansby said.
Anyone urgently needing to dispose of waste during the closure could use the Cromwell or Wānaka facilities.
The Wānaka Transfer Station will also require repairs which are scheduled for 11-17 June. The facility will be partially
closed during this period and Council will provide further reminders closer to the time.
