Passing of Tairua-Pauanui Community Board member Brent Turner
It’s with great sadness our Council has learned that Tairua-Pauanui Community Board member, Brent Turner, has passed
away.
“On behalf of Councillors, members of the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board and Council staff, we extend our deepest
sympathies to Brent’s family,” says our Mayor Sandra Goudie.
"We are saddened at the passing of Brent who was greatly loved and will be missed," says Mayor Sandra. "He was a
pleasure to work with and I found him to be always positive for his community."
Brent lived in and out of Tairua for more than 60 years, attending Tairua School and later Thames High School when the
Kopu-Hikuai Road opened in 1967. In 1968 he began building houses and since 1980 he owned and operated several
businesses around Tairua.
Brent joined the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board to represent his community, Tairua, in 2017 and was involved in several
community projects. Brent found his term as a Community Board member interesting, with some challenging issues. He was
pleased to see the development of the new parking design for the Paku Summit car park and the smooth transition of the
Tairua Information Centre to its temporary new home in the Tairua Library building. Brent also worked with the Hikuai
Hall Society with their up-keep of that facility and assisted the Tairua Ratepayers Association with many of their
varying tasks for the betterment of Tairua.
Brent also played a key role in representing the Tairua community recently in resolving a dispute with NZTA about
Tairua’s main road and was always willing to stand up for what he believed was best for his community.
More information about a funeral service for Brent will be shared when it’s available
