Inspiring tech talk

2 May 2019

Helping make her colleagues’ jobs run smoothly is one of the things Porirua City Council’s Chanel Pilcher-Landgraf likes about working in the technology sector.

The Acting Chief Information Officer is one of three inspiring women with careers in technology who will share their insights at a breakfast event in Porirua this month.

The Women in Tech breakfast is part of the nationwide Techweek19 festival, which focuses on innovation that’s good for the world. It is the first of three breakfasts being held in the Wellington region – each featuring three inspiring women who will talk about what drew them into tech and how to improve that pathway for other women.

Ms Pilcher-Landgraf got into the sector because she was naturally good at computing at college and was offered a scholarship to complete a Bachelor of Information Technology at Whitireia. She has worked in tech now for 10 years and really enjoys it.

“No two days are the same. There are so many opportunities, variety and growth in the IT sector to keep you challenged on a daily basis,” she says.

“It’s satisfying to be a part of an industry which is based around supporting colleagues in making their jobs easier and more productive.”

She will be joined at the breakfast by Eteroa Lafaele, MacDiarmid Discovery Camp alumnus and AUT Computer Science graduate, and Michelle Robinson, Executive Director Partners Porirua and Women in Technology Scholarship Convenor for Zonta.

As well as the three speakers there will be the chance to network with other tech professionals who are passionate about helping more women into tech careers.
