The NZ Transport Agency advises that a new right-hand turning bay is being installed on SH22 near Drury to make it safer
for all road users.
Construction of the new turning bay into Jesmond Road will start this weekend and should be completed by the end of the
month.
The Transport Agency’s Safe Network Programme Director, Tim Crow, says the right turn bay work has been brought forward
ahead of other safety improvements on this corridor, thanks to generous support from Karaka Pines Villages, which is
developing the nearby Karaka Lifestyle Estate retirement village.
The work will take place on Sunday to Thursday nights from 9pm to 5am, weather permitting.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience or noise. There will be stop/go traffic management and temporary speed
limits in place. “
“The SH22 safety improvements are part of the wider Supporting Growth programme that is looking at ways to support this
area as the largest future urban growth area in Auckland. The safety improvements will help make it safer for people who
are travelling to work, school or to leisure activities, whether they are using public transport, driving, walking or
cycling, ” says Mr Crow.
A range of short-term improvements are currently being considered for delivery through the Safe Network Programme (SNP).
Longer-term plans for SH22 are being developed by the Supporting Growth programme in an integrated way so the transport
network is in place and ready to go as it becomes a more urban area. We are working alongside housing and infrastructure
developers to ensure our programmes are aligned and our plans are being developed in collaboration with Auckland
Council, which has been consulting on the draft structure plan for the wider area over the past month.
