Changes to the Employment Relations Act affect buses

Published: Wed 1 May 2019 03:27 PM
Auckland Transport has worked closely with bus operators and unions to minimise changes to services, brought about by an amendment to the Employment Relations Act.
The changes come into effect from Monday (6 May) and prescribe more regular work time breaks for bus drivers. This in turn means some timetable changes, or service cancellations.
Auckland Transport says as a result of the cooperative approach with bus companies and unions, less than one per cent of services will be affected (approximately 120 of the 13,043 services operated daily). Most of the affected services are off-peak.
AT Group Manager Metro Services, Stacey Van Der Putten says Auckland Transport is confident that customers will still have many travel options on a day to day basis. “Our bus operators have done a great job and they have managed to keep the impact very low. We’d like to thank them for that.
“Auckland Transport will continue to work with the operators, along with NZTA and the Ministry of Transport, we want to keep as many services operating as possible while upholding the intent of the act.”
All trips that are affected will be cancelled in the AT Metro Journey Planner system and on the website so that customers have the most up to date information both online and at bus stops.
We hope to have the full list of cancelled services online later today.
