Ground-breaking event brings NZ’s parenting organisations together
Parents Centre NZ is bringing together volunteers from its 46 Centres, childbirth educators and other parenting
organisations in a ground-breaking opportunity to strengthen support for new parents.
Parents Centre is the lead provider of childbirth education and through its 46 Centres, provides on-going peer support
for parents of young babies.
The theme of the Conference is Enriching the First 1000 Days and focuses on the critical information new parents need to
know to give their children the best start in life.
Key note speakers include:
Emily Write, writer and blogger
Nathan Wallis, International expert on parenting and understanding the brain development of young children
Alison Sutton, Talking Matters, a campaign to increase the quality and quantity of talk wrapped around our children
Maria McKenzie, Brainwave Trust, Brain Development in the early years.
Bronwyn Sweeney, Childbirth educator, psychologist and sleep specialist.
Also taking part in the Conference is Parenting Place, who have partnered with Parents Centre to provide ongoing parent
education and support.
“Every year around 60,000 children are born and approximately 20,000 of these are to new parents. Too many still miss
out on the critical information they need to give their children the best start in life. But if we pool our expertise
across parenting organisations, we can provide better support to families.
