Indoor Weather for Some as Easter Weekend Ends
With a front and low pressure duo set to bring at least a period of rain to much of the country today or Monday the dry
weather which lasted much of the week may seem like a distant memory.
Heavy rain Watches and Warnings are in force over parts of the North Island and the upper eastern coasts of the South
Island as a slow-moving front pushes over the North Island. The largest rain accumulations are expected over the North
Taranaki and western Nelson today and the ranges of eastern Bay of Plenty during Monday. Those on the move in affected
areas are recommended to keep an eye on the forecast as road conditions could remain poor for a few hours if you get
caught under the front.
“It’s not been ideal end to long weekend for outdoor holiday makers, though the ridge of high pressure so dominant most
of this week meant that many would have got a fine start to the Easter holiday" MetService Meteorologist April Clark
said, “hopefully any garden Easter egg hunts considered the forecast and no Easter eggs fell victim to the rain” she
added.
The front is expected to slowly move east on Monday and off the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne area on Tuesday. However, a
broad area of low pressure following closely behind the front means that heavy showers will linger over the North Island
and upper South Island, even after the front has passed to the east.
“Another ridge of high pressure does eventually build in over New Zealand. The lower South Island is already seeing dry
weather along much of the rest of the Island by Monday evening” Clark said.
