"Police statement on ANZAC Day commemorations in Auckland"
Attribute to Superintendent Karyn Malthus, Auckland City District Commander:
Police across Tamaki Makaurau have been working with Auckland Council and local RSAs to provide advice in the lead up to
the annual ANZAC day events.
Superintendent Karyn Malthus says it is important to reiterate that there’s no information to suggest a specific risk to
public safety at this time.
“In the current environment Police are continuing to provide a visible presence nationwide for the safety and
reassurance of the community,” says Superintendent Malthus.
“Police have been working closely with Auckland Council and local RSAs around plans in the lead up to ANZAC Day."
With that in mind, Police have recommended to organisers that a number of planned events across Tamaki Makaurau be
consolidated in the interests of public safety.
“We recognise the public will want to commemorate ANZAC Day across the region and we are wanting them to do that in the
safest way possible, which may mean some have to travel a little further to an event.
“As is the case nationwide, we will have a visible presence across events on the day.”
Superintendent Malthus says the advice for the public continues to be that they should remain vigilant and report any
suspicious of concerning behaviour to Police by calling 111.
