Porirua City’s elected members will be inviting Porirua residents and businesses to discuss the city’s plans for the year ahead.

The Annual Plan 2019/20 is keeping to what’s in the city’s Long-term Plan but residents can still have a say, says Mayor Mike Tana.

“As there’s no significant change to the Long-term Plan (LTP) that we agreed with the community last year, the need to formally consult isn’t required. By keeping to the LTP, the community can be reassured that the Council is following through on what they told us they wanted and within the funding they agreed. However, we are still keen to get out and speak with our community about the works that are happening now and what’s planned for the year ahead.”

Clinics to meet with elected members are being planned for early May and will be promoted across social media and in the Kapi-Mana News in the coming days.

Every three years the Council is required to produce an LTP, and develop annual plans in the intervening years. The 2019/20 Annual Plan, to be adopted by the Council on 19 June, will highlight the works the Council will be carrying out next year.

“Those works will be completed within the 4.98% average rate increase as agreed in the LTP so any minor changes to costs and revenue will be managed within that funding envelope.”

The Council has just adopted a Growth Strategy for the city and now the organisation is shifting its focus to developing an implementation plan, including reviewing all our services in line with the revised growth assumptions, says General Manager Policy, Planning and Regulatory Services Nic Etheridge.

This work will feed into the review of key policies and strategies as part of the development of the next LTP (2021-41). You can view the high-level approach here

“As part of this growth work we are also looking at how we respond to our changing climate over time, and we will be keen on community input into this piece of work in the coming months,” Ms Etheridge says.
