Roadworks on SH1 north of Warkworth sunday night

Published: Sat 23 Mar 2019 01:00 PM
Motorists heading to Northland on State Highway 1 on Sunday night (24 March) are advised there will be two sets of road works north of Warkworth, so plan your journey.
The first is to establish a new northbound road layout just north of Warkworth, past the A showgrounds, says the NZ Transport Agency’s Northland System Manager Jacqui Hori Hoult.
The road will be reduced to one lane, with the northbound crawler lane closed so a concrete barrier can be installed.
The new layout and barrier are to ensure there is safe separation between live traffic and nearby construction activities associated with the Puhoi to Warkworth Motorway Project.
The work site is the northern-most part of the project where ground improvement and earthworks are under way for the roundabout where the motorway will tie in to the existing SH1.
There will be stop/go traffic management and temporary speed limits in place between 8pm and 5am while the barrier is installed.
Motorists are reminded to take care and be vigilant when passing the work site.
“Don’t be distracted by what’s happening on the side of the road. Maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles and be prepared for possible delays,” says Ms Hori Hoult.
Further north at Topuni, near Te Hana, there will be re-surfacing work starting on Sunday night and continuing for up to three more nights.
There will be temporary speed limits and stop/go traffic managers on the road between 7pm and 5am.
“The work needs to be carried out across the full width of the state highway so there could be up to 20 minute delays.”
“Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys. The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience and understanding as this essential road maintenance is carried out.”
As with all resurfacing, this work could be postponed if there is bad weather.
