Sky Tower and Auckland Harbour Bridge to become candles

Published: Thu 21 Mar 2019 04:49 PM
The Sky Tower and Auckland Harbour Bridge will be lit up as candles from Friday evening to remember the victims of the Christchurch attacks one week ago, and to stand in solidarity with the Muslim community and all those affected.
The Tower and the Harbour Bridge have been dark for the past week as a mark of respect. From 6pm tomorrow, the base of the Sky Tower will remain dark while the top level will shine with a dynamic orange light, flickering to resemble a candle flame.
Vector Lights on Auckland Harbour Bridge will also be lit up with 50 ‘candles’ across the Bridge in remembrance of the victims, from 8.00pm to midnight, Friday night onwards.
Candles have been chosen as a gesture to the many candlelight vigils taking place across New Zealand this weekend. They will continue to flicker across the Auckland skyline until further notice.
In addition to this tribute, SKYCITY and Vector staff, as well as customers visiting the SKYCITY sites in Auckland, Hamilton, Queenstown and across Australia will observe two minutes of silence on Friday afternoon (NZT).
